This workshop session will focus on practical skills and tools trimmers can use to be more effective at motivating and engaging their clients on farm.
This session will start by taking a look at the key factors driving farmer behavior and on-farm decision making – we’ll try to answer the question, ‘why do people do what they do?’ Building from this, the session will then explore one-on-one and group-based approaches to communicate effectively with farmers. This interactive session will also give trimmers an opportunity to share experiences and best practices with respect to motivating change.
This talk will cover recent research advances that have given us an exciting new understanding of the claw horn lesions. We will study vital structures of the foot, how these structures work to dissipate forces appropriately during locomotion and how they are impeded, leading to claw horn disruption and lameness.
What is the evidence for the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of drug treatment for the most common causes of lameness? This presentation will review the results of research studies about drug treatment in cows with sole ulcers and digital dermatitis, and discuss how research findings can be applied when making treatment decisions on the farm.
So you think social media (Facebook, Instagram and the like) are only good for gossiping teens, washed-up celebrities, and documenting the excellent meal you had at that local taco place last night? Think again. Social media is an excellent new way to connect with your clients, beyond the time you actually spend on site. In this session, Jamie Sullivan will bring you up to speed on the ins and outs of all things social media and hoof trimming.
Recent advances have given us useful insights into the formation of claw horn lesions, as described in the previous talk, but what do these advances enable us to do differently? We’ll explore current advice for lameness prevention, detection and treatment, describe barriers to lameness control and explain new commercial services that are being launched in the UK to manage lameness.
